Is counseling right for me?

Sometimes talking with a friend or family member about what we are going through can be challenging. There may even be times when doing so may not be enough and we are left feeling like nothing has changed. Seeking help to get through challenging times does not mean that something is wrong with you. Seeking help means that the challenging time you are going through is not for you and you want to work through it. Inner Transformation Therapeutic Services, PLLC provides a supportive environment that allows you to openly work through the challenging times with a licensed professional who is objective, neutral and nonjudgmental.

 

What is counseling?

Counseling is a collaborative treatment based upon a therapeutic partnership between you and the counselor. The counselor works with you to identify goals as well as solutions to the challenge times you are experiencing. The counselor may also work with you to improve coping skills to aid in the ability to handle future challenging times, communication skills, strengthen your self-esteem, and promote positive behavioral changes.

 

What can I expect during a session?

Each counseling session is unique and based upon your individual needs as well as goals. During your session, we will explore your concerns, feelings, behaviors, and/or challenging experiences that may be affecting the quality of life you wish to live. By working together, we will explore realistic and attainable solutions to the change you wish to achieve.

 

How long are sessions?

Regular sessions are 45-60 minutes and begin at your scheduled time.  If needed, longer sessions can be arranged.

 

How do I get the most out of counseling?

You can get the most out of counseling by approaching counseling as a partnership with your counselor. Being open as well as honest with your counseling and your willingness to share your thoughts, feelings, and experiences will help you get the most out of counseling. Please let your counselor know if you are reluctant to talk about certain things due to painful emotions, embarrassment, or fear, which is normal. Building trust and becoming comfortable with your counselor is a part of building your therapeutic relationship with your counselor. Counseling is most effective when you’re an active participant and share in decision making.

 

How often will I meet with my counselor?

How often you meet with your counselor depends on your individual needs and goals. The frequency of sessions may decrease over time with progress made. You and your counselor will work together to determine how often you two would need to meet. To gain the most benefit from your sessions, it is important that you are consistence with your scheduled sessions.

 

Is counseling confidential?

In general, the law protects the confidentiality of therapeutic communication between you and your counselor. Without written permission, your information is not disclosed. However, exceptions to this confidentiality exist. By law, your counselor is required to report child, dependent adult, or elder abuse to the appropriate authorities. Your counselor must also notify the appropriate agencies, family member, or other persons if it appears that you are a danger to yourself or others.
